On May 1, 2011 we celebrated Labor’s Day in a different manner.
HISTORY: Mrs Barbara Flores, our client called us up on 2 Balikbayan boxes coming from her daughter’s friend in US. It contained pre-loved novels from US & Canada. Because she doesn’t know what to do with the books, she donated all to Emery Estates.
WHAT WE DID: We planned & implemented our program, “CHEAP BOOKS FOR A CAUSE”. The books were sold at a very low price (as low as Php50) and all proceeds were used to fund our Children Feeding Program. PJVedaivene Mabano & Jeoffrey Laput spearheaded the selling. Tenants & visitors in our building came and bought much of the books. One physician donated an amount. Also friends came in to buy. On Holy Week, we dropped the price to 10% lower. On the last 3 days before May 1, we dropped more to 50% discount. At the end of the day, we gathered Php 7,000.00+
THE SHOPAHOLIC My wife really loves shopping. More especially if its about giving gifts to people. I always joke her that maybe we’ll put up a foundation and she’ll manage it. She’s really a giver. Now, comes her favorite part of the program, shopping for the food & surprises. She just go there and I was surprised to see lots of boxes when I got home. She also loves packing candies for kids. Nobody helps her with that because she doesn’t want me or other people competing her packing job.
THE VENUE & PARTICIPANTS COORDINATOR My greatest gratitude to Nestor Tabañag & his two parent leaders for organizing the venue & participants. Former Brgy Councilor Wilfredo Tampus lend us 20 chairs & 1 big blue tent. Brgy Pajac also let us borrow 1 tent, chairs & sound system.
THE COOKS We brought the raw materials in the neighboring area and was cooked by our volunteer parents at Sitio Abuno. The venue is still at the next Sitio. The sun was scorching hot but it never stopped the program volunteers from implementing the activity.
THE VOLUNTEERS These people made the activity a huge success without any payment & any food from us. All food were wiped clean by the participants.
My warmest thanks to:
